Each miniature series Bayard-Alpert type ionization gauge tube has two thoriated iridium oxide-coated filaments which provide burnout resistance if accidentally exposed to high pressure. To change from one filament to the other, reverse the connecting plug. Both filaments are spring-mounted to prevent warping and to maintain the fixed geometry needed to retain calibration. The non-sag tungsten grid is degassed directly to permit pressure indication during degassing. It may be degassed indefinitely in any position without sagging. A single plug connects to the filament, grid and collector electrodes of the tube.
This gauge is utilized on the Dupont 490 Series mass spectrometers.
