Direct Insertion Probe For Hewlett Packard 5989 Mass Spectrometers
The S.I.S. direct insertion probe, for use on the HP5989 and other HP mass spectrometers which have a ½ inch probe inlet, provides the user with greater flexibility and much faster ramp rates than the standard HP DIP probe. This is accomplished by positioning the heater at the tip of the probe where it is in direct contact with the sample vial. See the schematic and the graph comparing the heating rate of the HP and SIS direct probes. The maximum ramp rate is approximately 200 degrees C/min. when used with our separate temperature controller. The probe design provides for much faster heating of the sample and also faster cool down of the probe which allows for faster sample throughput. The maximum temperature of the probe is 400 degrees C. The probe can be used with either gas or liquid for the cooling of the probe. The probe contains all the necessary fittings on the handle for the cooling, CI reagent gas, heater and temperature sensor.
The S.I.S. temperature controller for use with this probe is our Model PC-1. This temperature controller allows the user to program ramp rates up to 200 degrees C/min. The digital display shows both the final set temperature as well as the actual temperature of the probe. The controller is equipped with a remote start switch and cable allowing the remote starting of the mass spectrometer from the PC-1 controller. Application Note: A High Temperature Direct Probe for a Mass Spectrometer High Temperature Direct ProbeScientific Instrument Services has developed a new High Temperature Direct Insertion Probe (HT-DIP). The probes can be used from ambient temperature up to 800 degrees C with ballistic temperature ramp of over 700 degrees C / min. Available for Agilent and Thermo Finnigan systems.
