Micro-Mesh

Cushioned Abrasives

icro-Mesh is a cloth-backed abrasive that is engi-
neered to produce fine finishes on metals, coatings,
plastics, glass, quarts and woods. Unlike conventional

abrasives, Micro-Mesh is made with precision graded silicon car-
bide, aluminum oxide or diamond crystals, a resilient inner cush-
ioning layer and a flexible cloth backing. Micro-Mesh cushioned
abrasives are made in such a manner that the crystals are held in
a resilient latex matrix on a flexible cloth backing, which will allow
the crystals to recede when sub-
jected to contact pressure. These
features combine to provide
exceptionally uniform finishes.

What is unique about cush-

ioned abrasives is that they do
not give any random deep
scratches. Instead, they produce
an extremely uniform scratch pat-
tern over the entire work surface.
The crystals continue to cut effec-
tively until they eventually
become dull and lose their cutting
edge.

Micro-Mesh may be used wet or dry and after you’re done. it

can be washed out and used again.

Applications in our shop at SIS include cleaning and polishing

sources, probes, filaments, and quadrupole rods. The finer meshes
ar ideal for cleaning and trimming source slits. By beginning with
the coarser grits of regular Micro-Mesh (1500 - 2400) and success-
fully polishing with finer grits (3200 - 12000) we have produced mir-
ror finishes on MS direct probes. The finer grits, (Kit #MMK-3), are
ideal for cleaning mass spec sources. The new MXD diamond
coated Micro-Mesh is used to finish glass, quartz, and ceramic -
ideal when you need to shave down a ceramic insulator.

the MX is less flexible than in the regular so you can achieve
a high gloss on metals.

large micron graded silicon carbide crystals suspended in and ultra
flexible resin bond. Grades 8000 and 12000 are made with alu-
minum oxide crystals.

Aluminum Oxide Crystal Abrasive

Use these products for finishing aluminum and for finishing solid

surface countertops, such as Corian and Avonite, etc.

Color of these products range from off-white to yellow. This

material is made to be used wet or dry and is made with a flexible
cotton backing with polymer emulsion cushioning layer and large
micron graded aluminum oxide crystals suspended in an ultra flex-
ible resin bond.

Crystal Abrasive With Thicker Backing

Use these products for finishing stainless steel, brass, copper,

other metals and hard wood.

This material is made to be used wet or dry, and is made with a

flexible cotton backing with polymer emulsion cushioning layer and
large micron graded silicon carbide crystals suspended in a flexible
resin bond. The bond in the MX is less flexible than in the REGU-
LAR so you can achieve a high gloss on metals.

Abrasive colors of this product range form dark grey to light

grey. Grades 800 MX and 1200 MX are made with aluminum oxide
crystals.

Polishing/File Board

hese polishing file boards are ideal for getting into tight
spaces, cleaning quadrupole rods or for use in any other
place where a stiff backing is preferable.

Buffer files are available in 2 sizes - 5 3/4" x 1/2" and 7" x

11/16". The three grit files consist of 2400, 4000, and 12000 grades
of Regular Micro-Mesh while th four grit files consist of 180, 2400,
4000, and 12000 grades if Regular Micro-Mesh abrasives.

Sanding Swabs

If you have had problems getting into tight areas, we’ve found

the perfect solution: Micro-Mesh Sanding Swabs. used for anything
from polymer clay to porcelain, plastics and more. These polishing
swabs are ideal for getting into tight spaces, cleaning mass spec-
trometer sources, or for use in any other place where a small swab
can reach.

Available in variety packs of 12 different Micro-Mesh grades

ranging from 100 MX to 12000, each swab is color-coded and pack-
aged in a header card listing the corresponding grades of Micro-
Mesh. Swabs are available in 2.25", 3", and 5" lengths. Wash and
reuse for fantastic value.

MX-90 Metal Finishing Kit

Use for polishing stainless steel, copper, brass, bronze, alu-

minum and other soft metals to a mirror finish. Use this kit to polish
up to 30 square feet of metal to a mirror finish. The files are used
for getting into small areas.

This is a great kit for cleaning mass spectrometer sources with-

out having to use polishing compounds, rouge, or stone polishing.
Each kit contains: 1 sheet of each of Micro-Mesh Sheets 80MX,
100MX, 120MX, 150MX, 180MX, 240MX, 20MX, 360MX, 400MX,
600MX, 800MX, and 1200MX; 1-3" x 3" foam sanding block, 1-
100MX/150MX Handi-File, 1-180MX/240MX Handi-File, 1-
400MX/600MX Handi-File and instructions.

The Major Kit

clean a mass spectrometer source. The selection of
