VG-FAB Probe Tips
Scientific Instrument Services manufactures VG-FAB probe
tips. These new probe tips are similar in construction to the orig-
inal FAB tips but with a slightly larger and stronger ceramic base.
This results in a much more durable probe tip.
Three styles are available: the slanted design used on the
majority of instruments (VG-FAB), the new straight design, (VG-
FB2), and the dual design (VG-FB3) used on some of the newer
instruments.
S.I.S. has redesigned the DCI Probe Tip for VG TRIO 1000
and 2000 instruments. The new design incorporates a Vespel
DCI Probe Tip Base which plugs into the tip of your existing
probe. Then the replaceable Probe Tip Filaments are plugged
into this new Vespel Probe Tip Base. Once the Vespel Probe Tip
Base is purchased, the cost of repairing or replacing the probe
filaments is much less than those available from the manufactur-
er. This new DCI probe tip was designed for and tested by sev-
eral of our customers. The DCI filaments performed the same as
those originally used but the replacement cost is much less.

filaments for the Agilent Technologies MSD series
mass spectrometer (Agilent Models 5992, 5992A,
5992B, 5993, 5993B, 5995, 5970, 5970A, etc.)* These fil-
aments are exact retrofits for the original Agilent
Technologies filaments (#05990-60084). Strict quality con-
trol is adhered to when manufacturing these filaments.
Distance between filament posts is accurate to within
0.001". Each rhenium wire filament is accurately tensioned
and aligned on an Agilent source block. The filament wire
is accurately positioned over the ion source slit to assure
optimum performance.
Agilent Technologies 5989 Filaments
S.I.S. manufactures the strap or band style filaments for the Agilent Technologies 5989
and other 5980 series mass spectrometers (Agilent #05985-60179). The rhenium
filament wire is accurately positioned, tensioned, and spot welded to the metal strap. The
metal strap contains the pre-punched holes for easy installation.
Agilent Technologies Wire Filaments
and Support Wires
S.I.S. manufactures both the rhenium filament wires with looped ends
(Agilent #05980-60089) and the tungsten support wires on hooks (Agilent #05980-20396)
for the Agilent Technologies 5980 series mass spectrometers.

These filaments are direct retrofits for the original plug-in filament. Standard sample loop is 0.016" diameter.
S.I.S. also offers a variety of other filament designs for use on the Thermo probe. FINDEP1 has a larger loop diameter of .031". FIND-

Bending would cause the filament to sag, lose sensitivity, and short out against the shield. In addition, we have lowered the shield approx-

he metal filament shown on the right is a filament similar to the
original Thermo filament for those users who prefer this style filament. However, sev-
eral design improvements have been made for better performance. The filament
shield is constructed from a heavier gauge stainless steel material and is much stronger. The
filament posts have been shortened and are constructed of a heavier gauge metal to help elim-
inate filament sagging.
Ceramic Body Filament for Thermo 3000 and 3200 Series Mass
Spectrometer
These ceramic body filaments were designed to eliminate many of the problems associated with the Thermo metal type
filaments. Our new design is strong and durable. The short metal posts hold the filament wire straight, while tension is maintained to
minimizing sagging. The ceramic body eliminates shorting of the filament to the source. The filaments come complete with silver wire leads
and stainless steel mounting screws. Connections to instrument lead wires can be made with the connector listed below (requires two
connectors).

The posts protrude out of the middle of the filament. There is no metal in the back to short against the magnet. Also, there is no metal
on the ends, which insulates the filament from shorting out in these areas as well. The 0.032" diameter leads can be cut to the desired
