Mass Spec Interface Kit

For Interfacing GC Column and Mass Spectrometer

Features

When changing GC columns in a mass spectrometer it can easily take hours to be ‘up-and-running’ again. SGT Middelburg BV, The Netherlands , now offers an unique solution to this long existing problem.

The SGT Mass Spec Interface is installed between the end of the GC capillary column and the interface to the mass spectrometer. This system permits the quick changing of GC columns without venting the mass spectrometer. When the GC column is removed from the Mass Spec Interface, a flow of clean carrier gas purges the Mass Spec transfer line and allows the Mass Spec to stay under vacuum. When the new column has been installed, the next analysis can start within seconds.

For most installations, the complete MS Interface Kit is recommended. This kit contains the Shortix column cutter (which assures clean square cuts on the ends of the columns) and a new Super-Clean Combi Filter (which provides ultra pure carrier gas to the mass spec). If you already have a Shortix, then the MS Interface kit without the Shortix and Combi-Filter can be used.

The Mass Spec Interface Connector is a ‘Self-Compensating’, Glass Press-Fit based Fused-Silica Connection System. Glass Press-Fits is the ideal product to connect Fused-Silica (Column) material.

For additional details on the use and operation of the MS Interface see the application note which was presented at PittCon 99.

The MS-Interface Kit can be used with the Varian, Finnigan, Hewlett-Packard and most other GC and GC/MS systems. It is recommended that the MS Interface system be installed on systems with turbo molecular vacuum pumps. Mass Spectrometers with oil-diffusion pump vacuum systems can ONLY function without problems with a 100um Column transfer line in order to avoid damage to the mass spectrometer system.
