5971 Bayard Alpert Vacuum Measurement System
T
he vacuum measurement system to monitor the source pressure is optional for
the 5971. A complete system is available from S.I.S. to measure the source pres-
sure. The system consists of a model 330 ion gauge controller, an ion gauge
adaptor, a G75K ion gauge tube and a cable. This Bayard Alpert style vacuum gauge tube
and controller is an exact replacement for the optional system available from Agilent The
adaptor is inserted between the NW25 flange at the bottom of the analyzer and the cali-
bration gas vial.

New Agilent 5971 Transfer Line Tip
The transfer line tip for the Agilent 5971 MSD has been redesigned to permit the effluent from the end
of the capillary column to purge directly into the MSD source, unlike the original gold plated transfer line
tip in which the effluent purged inside this fitting and was diverted through side vents. This new design elim-
inates any inlet metal contact with the sample. The capillary column protrudes slightly through the end of
the tip directly into the source. This new design should result in higher sensitivity for compounds which are
sensitive to any metal contact.

Repair
The feedthroughs on the 5971 analyzer
top plate can be replaced by S.I.S. These
feedthroughs are very fragile and susceptible
to damage. Repair includes drilling out the old
feedthrough, TIG welding a
new feedthrough in place,
and helium Leak Testing of
repaired feedthrough. This
repair requires returning the
analyzer top plate. We will
repair within 24 hours and
return it via Federal Express.
