Wheaton purge and trap apparatus for use in trapping volatiles onto S.I.S. desorption tubes

100 ml Purge and Trap System

The Wheaton Purge and Trap Apparatus is widely used for the isolation of pollutants in soil, sediment, waste water, and other solid and liquid samples by purging a clean gas over and thru the sample contained therein and trapping the purged volatiles on adsorbent traps. This device has been modified by S.I.S. to trap these volatiles on the S.I.S. GLT Thermal Desorption Tubes. The 1000 ml version of this apparatus can purge and trap benzene in water down to 1 ppb using conventional GC or GC/MS techniques.

1000 ml Purge and Trap System

A variety of purge gas tubes can be used including a plain 1/4" diameter glass tube, 1/4" stainless steel tube, or the diffusion tube which includes a fine frit on the end of the tube to deliver the purge gas in small bubbles to better purge the volatiles from liquid samples. These tubes can be fitted to the purge gas source via Swagelok connectors with PTFE ferrules or via inert plastic tubing.

The S.I.S. GLT Thermal Desorption tubes are screwed into the adaptor fitting and a seal made via the standard PTFE washers. This adaptor in turn fits into the plastic adaptor on the Wheaton glassware.

The systems include glass vessel and all fittings as shown including adaptor (781010), GLT tube, PTFE seal and S.S. cap with hole (781007).
