Tube Style Purge Head

The Stainless Steel Purging Heads are designed for use with the S.I.S. Purge and Trap System (described on the previous page) and the S.I.S. GLT thermal desorption tubes. In addition, optional fittings are available to adapt the purging heads for use with other manufacturers desorption or sampling tubes. Two styles of the Stainless Steel Purging Heads are available. The top fitting of both purge heads consists of a 1/16" fitting for the attachment of the sparging needle followed by needle adaptor to seal the needle in place and provide for the attachment of the purging gas line. The side gas line is for the use of a dry purge gas to aid in removing water from the desorption tube adsorbents or samples. When not required, this fitting is capped with the 1/16" plug cap provided. The desorption tubes are screwed into the end of the Stainless Steel Purging Head and leak tight seals are made with the standard 1/4" PTFE washers.

The Standard Purging Head is the system that is supplied with the Complete Purge and Trap System described previously. The bottom fitting consists of a 1/2" Swagelok fitting with PTFE ferrules for the attachment of standard 1/2" diameter sample tubes. An optional 12 mm Swagelok nut and 12 mm PTFE ferrule can be used with this fitting to adapt it for use with standard 12 mm sample tubes such as the disposable 12 mm tubes readily available from many suppliers.

The Tube Style Purging Head contains of a 1/4" outside diameter tube instead of the 1/2" fitting described above. This permits the use of other sampling tubes which the user can easily adapt to this fitting via standard 1/4" GC fittings, such as the 1/4" to 1/2" union included with this purge head.

Two optional adaptors screw into the purge head outlet to adapt both of the purging heads for other manufacturers sampling tubes. The 1/4" Tube Adaptor (783007) provides a standard 1/4" outside diameter tube which can easily be adapted to other fittings or hose. The 1/4" Swagelok Adaptor (783008) contains a 1/4" Swagelok nut for the attachment of 1/4" diameter sample tubes.
