Finnigan MAT 3000, 5100, 1020, OWA and Incos Stainless Steel Body Filaments

Over the last 12 years, Scientific lnstrument Services has designed and redesigned several filaments for the Finnigan MAT 3000, 3200, 1020, OWA®, 5100 and Incos 50 mass spectrometer. These filaments were all designed to replace the original metal filament supplied by Finnigan MAT (Finnigan MAT #30004-60020). This original Finnigan MAT filament has several shortcomings. The long thin posts are easily moved or bent, resulting in filament sagging. In some instruments, such as the Incos 50, the metal filaments are easily shorted out to the filament block. Two basic redesigned styles are available from S.I.S. The metal filament shown above is a filament similar to the original Finnigan MAT filament for those users who prefer this style filament. This filament is similar in design to the original filaments. However, several design improvements have been made for better performance. The filament shield is constructed from a heavier gauge stainless steel material and is much stronger. The filament posts have been shortened and are constructed of a heavier gauge metal which will help eliminate filament sagging.

We have also designed 3 configurations of ceramic body filaments to replace the metal filaments in the various models of Finnigan MAT mass spectrometers. The ceramic filaments have the advantage of being stronger in construction, self-aligning, one piece design, and will eliminate shorting out problems normally encountered with the metal filaments.
